Solar Gem Australia powers island off Mumbai
Australian company Solar Gem was recently involved in an electrification project in an island off the coast of Mumbai in India. Elephanta Island, housing the famous Elephanta Caves – an UNESCO heritage site and an island with 1500 inhabitants spanning 3 villages 12 Kms off the Coast of India’s most developed city recently received conventional electricity for the 1st time in the history of the island.
Solar Gem installed solar powered off grid lighting systems that would power the villages in the island. The clean solar powered systems will provide uninterrupted electricity for the island that was dependent on diesel based generators & candles. The electrification project is expected to be a potential game changer for the island with more development projects in tow.
