Speaking about the Australian Automotive Mission to India, Mr Peter Linford, Senior Trade & Investment Commissioner – South Asia, Australian Trade Commission said, “Australia has a globally integrated automotive industry. With 3 vehicle manufacturers and more than 200 suppliers with expertise in a wide range of technologies and materials to develop a vehicle from concept to release, Australia has significant capabilities in vehicle production, components, engineering, tooling and design. The Australian automotive industry is capable of producing vehicles that excite our domestic and international markets through environmental compliance, safety excellence and value for money”.
“Australia is also at the forefront of sustainable vehicle development programme through our Government’s new car plan for a greener future. The Australian automotive industry can provide value added competitive solutions, technology and expertise for the Indian automotive industry. There are tremendous opportunities for joint ventures, collaborations, technology transfers, investments and tie ups between Australian and Indian companies in the automotive sector”, said Peter Linford.
According to Mr John Conomos, Australian Automotive Industry Envoy, “The Australian automotive industry has strong capabilities in advanced technology, research and development, design and engineering, product and process development and advanced manufacturing. These capabilities are supported by a strong commitment to innovation and quality engineering, including in niche technologies. Though small by global standards, Australia is one of only 15 countries with a full range of capabilities, from concept to delivery. This enables Australian suppliers to span R&D, design, production development in services, components and parts supplies as well as complete vehicles”
Automotive Market Access Program
The Automotive mission to India is also supported by the Victorian Government and the Auto Link cluster. The mission is an initiative under the Automotive Market Access Program [AMAP], which forms part of the Australian Government’s long-term plan for the automotive industry, “A New Car Plan for a Greener Future”, released by Prime Minister Rudd in November 2008. This policy includes $6.2 billion over thirteen years to help reshape Australia’s automotive industry, further enhance its competitiveness and encourage the development and production of low-emission, fuel-efficient vehicles and components.
