A Seminar on "Doing Business with Australia" was held in Kochi on Friday, 18 December 2009.

 

Organised by the Australian Trade Commission in partnership with the Cochin Chamber of Commerce, The seminar is a part of the Australian Trade Commission’s Utsav Australia (Celebrate Australia) programme – an Australian Government initiative to accelerate Australia’s commercial engagement with India and raise awareness of Australian industry capability amongst the Indian business community.

 

The seminar showcased the potential business & trade opportunities with Australia for businesses in Kerala in sourcing Australian technology, products and services; investing in Australia and potential joint venture partnership and investments.

 

The seminar specifically highlighted Australian expertise in infrastructure, building & construction, healthcare, tourism, education and training, food and beverage and the value-add of Australian companies to businesses in Kerala.

 

Speaking at the seminar, Aminur Rahman, Australian Consul General for South India and Trade Commissioner, said “Kerala is a very significant business destination for Australia. The developments in the infrastructure, property development, construction, tourism, hospitality and health care sectors in Kerala present itself as an important market and business destination for Australian companies. We are already starting to see keen interest from Australian companies in exploring the potential that Kerala has to offer and have several Australian companies doing business in Kerala”.

 

Australia can provide value-added competitive solutions and expertise both in traditional and emerging sectors for businesses in Kerala. Sectors of potential Australian involvement in Kerala would include, food & beverage, hospitality, food & beverage, education, healthcare related training & accreditation, Infrastructure, building & construction sectors where Australia has a demonstrated capability. Australia is also very well placed to assist Kerala in the development of its tourism sector as an upmarket and eco friendly tourism destination through sustainable development practices & expertise” said Aminur Rahman.
