An Australian Aerospace & Aviation business delegation comprising of 14 organisations participated at the Aero India 2009 event at Bangalore.

Facilitated by the Department of Defence, Australian Government; The Department of State & Regional Development – New South Wales and the Australian Trade Commission – The Australian Government’s international trade & investment promotion agency and the Australian High Commission India, the Australian participation at Aero India 2009 is one of the most significant Australian business groups in the defence, aviation & aerospace sectors to visit India. The participants are focused on developing mutually beneficial business relationships, through showcasing & offering Australia’s niche expertise & capabilities in these sectors for the Indian market.

 

 

 

 

 

Overview - Australian Aerospace / Aviation / Defence sectors

 

Australia is a major aviation and aerospace hub for the Asia Pacific region.  Australia’s aerospace industry operates in both the civil and defence aerospace markets, comprising a few large aerospace companies and a significant number of small to medium enterprises.  It represents a mixture of domestic companies and international conglomerates, supporting niche industries and operating in diverse areas such as aircraft component manufacturing, aircraft repair and maintenance, light aircraft manufacturing, system design and development, aviation training and air traffic management solutions.

 

Australia s aerospace industry employs more than 20,000 highly skilled people offering world class capabilities and innovative technologies. A key partner in the development of the international F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program., Australia is also home to Boeing, BAE Systems, EADS, Smiths, GKN, Northrop Grumman, Thales and Saab. 

 

Australia has manufactured submarines, frigates and armoured vehicles, as well as completing ambitious upgrades of a wide range of vessels and aircraft.  Australian companies supply leading edge products based on technologically advanced capability solutions. Specialist products include command and control systems, multi-sensor datafusion, signal processing, phased array radar, navigation and positioning aids, logistics support systems, and self-monitoring propulsion systems. It also has specific skills in design and manufacture of aircraft structures.

 

With a very sophisticated airspace, the Australian civil aviation sector is also at the forefront with some of the most modern air traffic control systems and related civil aviation technology

 

The country is also a very exciting destination for aviation education & training, and the Australian commercial pilot licence is highly regarded around the world.

 

According to Mr. Aminur Rahman, Consul General for Southern India and Trade Commissioner, ”Australia has capability spread across the entire aerospace spectrum with expertise in air systems integration; aircraft component servicing; airport equipment and services; air traffic management; avionics; pilot education & aero-maintenance training; general aircraft manufacture, maintenance and support

The Australian business delegation to Aero India 2009 is a very important step to open up potential areas of co-operation between Australia and India in aerospace and aviation”, said Mr. Rahman.

 

According to Mr. Ken Finlay, Assistant Director - Defence Export Unit, Australian Government, “The Australian participation at Aero India 2009 is a collaborative initiative of the Australian Government and the Australian aerospace and defence industry sectors. It combines Australian Government and industry experience to showcase Australia’s innovative aerospace, defence and security technology solutions and relate these to the needs of global customers.

These offer state of the art capability solutions developed to meet the needs of the highly-respected Australian Defence Force and its operating environment which includes some of the world’s harshest terrain and climatic conditions. Companies exhibiting on the Team Australia stand at Aero India 2009 represent a selection of what Australian aerospace and defence industry can offer”, said Mr Finlay.
