Australian Food & Beverages showcased at IFDE India 2009

Wines, beverages and gourmet foods from Australia on offer for importers, distributors and the hospitality and retail sector

 

The Australian Trade Commission showcased award winning wines, beverages and gourmet food products from Australia at IFDE India 2009 – International Food & Drink Expo India 2009.

 

Organised from 2 to 4 December 2009 at New Delhi, the Australian Trade Commission has put together the "UTSAV Australia Pavilion" featuring award winning wine producers and suppliers of processed foods from Australia.

 

Australian Food & Beverage Sector

 

The Australian food sector is worth approximately A$ 101 billion, comprising of farm & fish food production worth A$ 30 billion and processed foods worth A$ 71 billion. Australian food exports are worth A$ 23 billion with the major markets being the USA & Japan accounting for 14% of total Australian food exports. Other relevant export markets are the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Hong Kong and China.

 

The Australian wine industry is the forth largest wine exporter in the world supplying to over 100 countries generating A$ 5.5 billion in export sales.

 

Australian food and beverage products have earned a reputation worldwide for the quality of their raw material ingredients and dedication to world class harvesting and processing regimes to ensure the quality & goodness of the finished food product. Australia is blessed with a pristine environment and diverse climatic conditions to be able to harvest & process a vast array of food stuffs for the international markets all year round.

 

The Australian Food & beverage industry is also known for innovative manufacturing and packaging technologies. Australia also has significant expertise in the areas of food processing technology and cold chain management.

 

According to Michael Carter, Trade Commissioner, Australian High Commission, “Australia has a strong international reputation for producing fresh and high quality food. The Australian food and wine festivals held across India between November 2008 to April 2009 have created significant awareness of the quality, taste and range of Australian food and wines amongst discerning Indian consumers and hospitality trade. At IFDE India 2009, The Australian Trade Commission is showcasing a range of producers and suppliers of food & beverages from Australia that are interested in supplying to the hospitality and organised retail sector industry in India”.
