Australian Participants in Climate Change Technology Development and Transfer International Conference & Exhibition in New Delhi seeks alliances & partnerships in India
Australian expertise, technologies and solutions in clean energy and environment are on offer for India. 12 Australian organisations are participating at the Australian pavilion in the Climate Change Technology Development and Transfer International Exhibition to be held on 22-23 October 2009 at New Delhi which is being conducted in parallel to a high level conference being attended by Ministers and senior government officials from over 50 countries.
Organised by The Australian Trade Commission - Australian Government’s international trade and investment promotion agency, The Australian participation at the exhibition is Australia’s first ever trade initiative in clean energy and environment in India. This initiative is supported by the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism, Department of Science Innovation Industry and Research, Department of Climate Change, Australian Government; Government of South Australia and New South Wales Government
Australian Expertise in Clean Energy
Australia has abundant supply of all forms of renewable energy including solar, wind, wave tidal, hot rock geothermal energy. Australia’s large land mass is also potentially suited for second generation bio-fuels. Australia is also a world leader in water reform and water management
With sustainable development as the priority, Australia is committed to investing in the development and practical application of low carbon technologies and renewable energy initiatives. In line with this, Australia has recently implemented a resolution to ensure 20 per cent of the country’s electricity is derived from renewable sources by 2020.
As emerging nations implement policies to address climate change challenges, Australia has embarked on a mission to provide its expertise & solutions in climate change & clean energy to developing nations
According to Peter Linford, Senior Trade & Investment Commissioner – South Asia, Australian Trade Commission, “Australia is at the leading edge of international energy research, including solar photovoltaic energy, wind energy and clean coal technologies. Australia hosts the new Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute, which will lead an international effort to tackle the technical and policy challenges of this important technology. Australian science has also enhanced knowledge of the climatic processes of the southern hemisphere, and built capacity for climate modelling and projections. Our scientific expertise, backed by a substantial investment from government and industry, puts us at the forefront of efforts to address the interrelated challenges of climate change and sustainable development”.
“Australian expertise in clean energy is much sought after internationally and The Australian Trade Commission would like to offer Australian expertise in clean energy, environment management & sustainable development for India. The participation in the exhibition is part of the initiative and Australian government initiative to expand Australia s trade and investment presence and profile in clean energy and environment in global markets”, said Peter Linford
Australia – India Partnerships in Clean Energy
Australia and India are working closely in scientific research. The Australia-India Strategic Research Fund, with priority on environment sciences, renewable energy, bio energy and bio remediation has supported more than 50 high-quality joint projects. There are several successful and ongoing partnerships involving Australian and Indian government agencies, educational & research institutions and private sector companies. Some of the successful partnerships include
• Australian National University and Anna University collaboration to develop linear solar concentrating systems suitable for the Indian market
